Susan Sandeman is a Reader in Biomaterials and Biomedical Science at the University of Brighton (UK) with current research interests in functional tissue replacement strategies for kidney, liver and eye. She graduated with a BSc in Basic Medical Sciences with Pharmacology from Queen Mary, University of London in 1996 and did her PhD in ophthalmic biomaterials, cell senescence and the wound healing response at the University of Brighton in 1999. She continued her research at Brighton working on adsorbent, nanostructured and macroporous hydrogel biomaterials for medical device applications; receiving funding from UK NIHR, EU FP7, Horizon 2020 and the British Council Global Innovation Initiative. Susan currently oversees a team of researchers investigating MXene nanomaterials for ophthalmic and adsorbent biomedical applications.
